  • BMW dealership claiming a typo to pull a quote. Now feel rushed what can i do?

Hi all, im just looking for advice on how to play this situation and if there is anything i can use.

Long story short, i found an approved used car and have put a holding deposit on it (£500 - odd as its normally 250?) so i can travel up and view when i can (Its 3 hours drive away and my wife is 6 months pregnant. I have told them this).

Dealership wanted to negotiate price and finance over the phone so i went along.

I thought i was doing pretty well, i agreed on a price for the car subject to viewing / driving and was negotiating with the finance controler over Hire Purchase.

The first quote was obsurd and i prooved it by showing online comparison site quotes. The second quote was better but still not that good so i told the guy. Look id like to finance with you for convienience on purchase day and i dont mind helping you out (commission!) providing you can do something with the numbers to be more competative.

He replied that he really appreciated that and he would see what he could do. He emailed me a pdf of a quote including reference number valid for 30 days including a £2000 discount on* the vehicle in order to bring the total amount owed over the term down and more in line with finance from elsewhere.

I had heard of this sort of thing happening in the right conditions so i thought great!

It was the end of the day so i was unable to accept the quote there and then (over the phone).

So next day i called the guy and hes not at work. Day off! Ok so i talk to someone else. This someone else said hed look at the first guys quote. Hours later he emails me saying sorry but the first quote was a typo, i cant authorise a discount like that its too good!

So im like wow here we go then! I asked if there was any way that quote was still valid (says till 5th of march on the pdf) and he says no sorry nothing i can do and says gotta pay the £2000 again.

What do you guys sugest i do? Is this just another common tactic? Im holding out to try and speak to the first guy again and clear things up but i feel rushed / bullied now as they are constantly reminding me that there are other inquiries on the vehicle and that they cant hold it for me much longer and it will "fly out of the dealership if i dont BUY IT NOW" (i go to see it in 2 days. Ive already paid £500 in order to do this).

I do REALLY like the look of the car. I havent told them this, ive tried to be clever and say im keen but not sure so would like to see it and then decide, mentioning a few things i wasnt sure about it etc.

So i havent seen the car yet and they are telling me that if i dont want a finance agreement or that if i take some from elsewhere that i will need to cough up more than half of the money remotely tomorrow as there is a limit to the amount i can put on my debit card on the weekend (9500?).

To me this sounds like bullying, surely however i get the money to pay for it i can use a bank transfer to their account on the day for the full amount or take the time on the day to go over a finance deal again?

Thanks in andvance for any help or advice

This will be my first main dealership purchase, and so far its been a nightmare. Despite months of research into buying.

Currently up all night thinking about it
