MET McDonalds Parking Charge - won

Hi everyone,

I've thoroughly trawled this wonderful site but am unsure which letter template to opt for in fighting my parking charge. Unfortunately a driver recently stayed at McDonalds, Shoreham, very late at night (22:30 - 00:20) for 110 minutes instead of 90. They never saw a sign. MET have just sent me a £100 PCN by post with photos of my car. I am amazed.

I would be so grateful if somebody could steer me in the right direction as to how to combat this seemingly unfair charge.

Dear Sirs,


I, as registered keeper, wish to invoke your appeals procedure. The driver was a genuine customer.


It is noted that your notice to keeper is fundamentally flawed when compared to PoFA 2102 schedule 4 para 9.


Should you reject my appeal please supply a popla code.

Post back when you get a rejection letter/POPLA code and you'll get help for your proper appeal xx

Pretty much. I just like to check it's para9 (notice by post within 14 days) or paras 7/8 (notice on car then by post at least 28 days later)

Assuming you give it the thumbs up I shall proceed as advised and keep you posted. I'd be grateful if you could just confirm that the PCN is as expected.

Hello again! I'm back!

I have now heard back from MET with a notice of rejection of my appeal and a POPLA code. I have attached photos of their letter (with sensitive info removed). I'd be really grateful for some advice on how to proceed.

Coincidentally it just so happens that tonight I shall be in the vicinity of the McDonalds in question (for the first time since the alleged offence). Is it worth me having a chat with the branch manager?

Hello again!

I managed to call into McDonalds last week and speak to the manageress. She was very sympathetic and said she would email MET but she wasn't sure if this would help due to the amount of time that has passed. She said she would email me to let me know what happens. I have as yet heard nothing (that's why I have delayed posting an update) . I would like to chase this up but unfortunately I was unable to get her email address.

I also photo'd the signs. The main sign as you enter the car park is not lit. A light is directed at the reverse of the sign, where another sign is located. (photo of unlit sign is attached as the second attachment).

The other principle sign, near where my car had been parked, was also unlit. The lamp above it was not working. I have also photo'd this and attached it.

As always, any help and advice would be gratefully accepted. Thank you!

Any thoughts on the next step? Should I appeal to POPLA now that I have a case number or should I wait to hear back from McD's? Is there a template for what I should say in my appeal?
