MET Parking charge at McDonalds Northampton

Hi, I received a letter in the post stating that I had to pay £100 (£50 if paid in the next 14 days) for staying too long at a McDonalds carpark in Northampton, the letter is from "Met Parking", i have attached it in the hope that I could get some advice from someone a little more experienced in these matters than I. Thanks to anyone that reads this and can offer some advice.

We asked in the branch but they where pretty clueless. Told us to contact met parking.

Some are helpful and some aren't. You do need the manager though.


If they won't help you have a decision to make. In light of a recent appeal court ruling we are in a state of flux until we get some results. I think we should be ok but if we aren't and you appeal, any discount will be lost. Usually you can appeal and they'll give 14 days extra to get the discount to encourage you not to go to popla which costs them money. You could string it out and hope we have some results to better inform of likely scenarios.

An initial appeal would be along the lines of


Dear Sirs,

I, as registered keeper, wish to invoke your appeals procedure. The driver did not see any signs. In any event your charges are penal in nature and not a genuine pre estimate of loss.

I am under no statutory obligation to name the driver and will not do so.

If you reject my appeal please supply a popla code.

Yours etc

If they supply a popla code please return and i'll sort out a popla appeal for you.

I got the exact ticket and was at the exact same place.
