My 80-odd year old neighbour has an uncontested PCN in a local car park which she has paid at the reduced rate of £60, and received a receipt for, from Britannia Parking. However, the receipt has come with a different PCN reference number on it. She hadn't previously received any other PCN's.
Dated the same day as the receipt was sent out she also received a reminder for the legitimate PCN asking for £100 as it 'hadn't been paid'. And a reminder for a PCN for the same car park for the day before the first PCN. She hadn't been into that town on that day. Neither had she received a PCN for that day. The photos for the supposedly different days were almost identical and show her driving the car out of the parking space, I assume with seconds in between. So unless she is losing her memory of previous tickets and where she has been in the car, which I don't think is the case, something seems very wrong here.
She now faces a demand from BW Legal for £320 (2x £100 PCN + £120 legal fee) on top of the £60 paid. The initial uncontested PCN was 2nd December so we're well outside of Britannia's 28 day appeal period. She has never had to deal with anything like this before and is on the verge of paying it due to feeling stressed by it. She won't want to do anything protracted or stressful. Thanks in advance if anyone can offer any advice, even if it's just 'pay it'.
Edit: I've just found out about looking up PCN's online, I'll do that later and post what I find.
