  • Dvla untaxed car clamped wheel now chased to court

    Hi everyone,

This is a bit off topic, but hopefully someone been through it and could advise me.

I had a vehicle back in July, had the wheel clamped for not having tax on the road, I paid the fines etc. Then supposedly DVLA sent an out of court settlement of £85, I haven't received it or I don't know what happened to it, now I got a letter from Court about this unpaid tax , Under Article 29.
The thing was at the time there was some driveway work done on my property, only moved it for few hours on street. Couldn't tax the car at the time as I had no V5 yet in my name nor Did i have the New keeper, came few days later , taxed it and got the charge back of £160. Tried to tax it at post that time too but it wouldn't let me do it since It wasn't in my name the guy at post said. I know I am guilty for not having tax at that time, but this has been taken too far. Should I plead guilty and what would happen if I do?

    Thank you

No excise licence L3 or five times annual duty, whichever is greater A (1-3 months unpaid) B (4-6 months unpaid) C (7-12 months unpaid) Add duty lost
A third off the above if a guilty plea is entered. This is only the guideline for sentencing - hopefully you will get some advice! THe figure on the left is the maximum and on the right the fine levels ( a - 50% of weekly income b- 100% and c 150%)
