  • Do SORN this?

    Morning

I have booked in to have my car collected by a countrywide scrapping company. My tax expires at the end of this month and the car will be collected on Friday 26th.

Should I SORN the car before it gets collected? or will completing the new owners information on the DVLA website suffice to remove my obligation to pay TAX/declare SORN?

I am mindful that if I do not declare SORN that it might be a few days before the DVLA can send a tax/SORN letter to the new owner. So it is possible there might be a few days into APRIL where the car is neither taxed or SORNed. I appreciate I am probably overthinking this but I want to do the right thing.

If you are ceasing to be the registered keeper because you are selling the car there is no need to declare SORN.
You just advise DVLA of change of keeper when it has been collected

If the car is being scrapped, keep the yellow slip V5C/3 from the V5C form (log book). This is so you can inform the DVLA that the car has been put to scrap. You must inform DVLA if car is scrapped
