  • DVLA and Direct Debit.

Mr DT recently bought a second hand car and we went to the Post Office to tax it. Decided to do monthly DD as funds were low. Got the receipt from the Post Office and confirmation from DVLA with the mandate. So thought everything was OK however DD was due on the 17th of October but no sign of it being taken ( sufficient funds) No notice from DVLA, so I phoned the Bank, who told me there had been no request from DVLA I almost lost the will to live p
honing DVLA! I was informed the DD had been cancelled by them!
Took another week to sort out and had to go back to the Post Office and managed to pay for six months. Written notice from DVLA arrived yesterday with the usual warnings about being untaxed.
I wonder if I hadn't realised what would have happened? is
this another way the DVLA lines the coffers!

just ring the DVLA and quote letters and the DD they are usually human as their mistake (they will not admit it) then offer the months payment etc and usually that is it - a case with me where ongoing DD not collected after 12 months, but sorted as I stated will not trust them again, and their mistake, so paid up 12 months in my case.

Thank you Mike I did ring them and have paid for six months, They have promised an investigation into it.
This would have been the first payment, beats me why the first one is not taken out straight away leaving enough "room" for any "mistake" to be sorted ( I could not have cancelled as not even showing as pending on our account.) If I hadn't realised when I did we would have been driving a potentially untaxed car!
