My brother is 44 years old. He passed his driving test 21 years ago but never actually bought a car because he just didn't need to. The only time he's driven since then has been on the odd occasions when he's needed to hire a vehicle for a day. Now he wants to buy a car. He only wants a cheap runaround. He's gone on autotrader and seen a car he wants for 1k.
They have a link above the car that leads to an insurance comparison site. He's filled it out very honestly and stated that although hes held his licence for 21 years he's never actually been a car owner or a named driver on any other policy so he doesn't have a no claims bonus. He understand that because of this he'll be treated as a new car driver and the insurance will be a premium. However, the quotes the comparison sites are all more than the cost of the car.
I don't drive and have never driven so I haven't got a clue about this sort of thing. He only wants third party insurance so he can take his new (old banger) on the road but the cheapest quote they're giving him on comparethemarket for a car that only costs 1k is 2k. Can this be right? If not, where do you go to get a reasonable quote?
