We bought a 2018 plate Kia last July. Service booklet showed full servicing carried out by Kia dealerships on each occasion. We had to car serviced by our local dealership at the end of last year. Car had been running fine until a couple of weeks ago when suddenly it sounded like a canal boat and lost power. We had to have it recovered to the Kia dealer as AA said it appeared to be terminal and would likely be a warranty repair.
After a couple of weeks of diagnosing, and our local dealership liaising with Kia UK, this week we were told that we needed to contact the Kia dealerships that carried out the servicing prior to us purchasing the vehicle to check what oils/filters etc were used. So could see where this was going! Had a call today to say that Kia UK are saying that the warranty has been invalidated as at the very first service carried out by the Kia dealer they didn't do an oil change or replace any filters. The dealer only made a visual check of the engine.
I am fuming as the car was serviced by the Kia dealer who should have carried out what is required to maintain the warranty. Even Kia's own website states that you should use the Kia dealership for servicing as 'no one knows the cars like they do, and they will use genuine parts and lubricants'. Well seemingly not!!
Surely Kia UK should be dealing directly with that Kia dealer who invalidated the warranty in the first place to get them to cover the cost of the repairs that are now needed to our car which were told is either a new engine, or an engine rebuild. Surely when you buy a car with a full service history you're not expected to contact all the dealers who have previously serviced the car so that you can double check every item that's been used in the service complies with the warranty.
Any advice on how to handle this situation and to get either Kia UK or the errant dealer to cover the cost of our knackered engine would be helpful please!
