  • DVLA fining after clamping

    Hi, looking for some advice.

My vehicle was SORN on my mother in laws drive. Turns out the land we believed was her drive for the past 35 years actually wasn’t so I was clamped. This was on 4th April. I resolved the issue immediately and paid £100 plus a surety fee. I got the car an MOT the next day and taxed it. It was all resolved with DVLA enforcement and I was told that was the end of the matter. I’m now wondering if that information was incorrect.

I’ve now been sent another letter on 30th June saying I need to pay £161 because my car was untaxed and SORN on 4th April on public land.
Obviously I thought this matter had been dealt with. It says I can dispute it but I only have until the 17th to pay else risk having to pay £1000 instead.

    Is this legit?

Wasn't the £100 plus surety(?) fee just to get the car unclamped, and not a fine?

      And certainly not tax.
