hit and run accident, insured at fault

Hello. I've been a victim of hit and run accident. Police told me I have to report that to my insurance company. It's a third party fire and theft cover. I've got a letter saying I won't get any compensation as i don't have the details of the other driver, my NCD has been affected and I'm in fault of the accident. The accident wasn't my fault, I couldn't do anything. I ended up with a car damaged beyond repair, no insurance compensation, I've lost no NCD and I'm in the fault of the accident. It seems really not right blaming me for something I couldn't avoid. I'm not even making a claim I'm just reporting the accident as I've been told by police officer. Is there anything I can do?

Did you give your insurance company details of the vehicle that hit you? If so what?

If you reported the incident by way of information only it should not affect your NO CLAIM DISCOUNT.
You have not made a claim, and really as there is no likelihood of a third party making a claim against you, you might be due a return of premium for early cancellation of your policy.
As insures will tell you ; it is a NO CLAIM DISCOUNT not a NO BLAME DISCOUNT

Register a formal complaint in writing with your insurance company.and request they reinstate your full NCD
