  • generalised anxiety disorder & driving?

Hello. I am currently waiting for my car to be repaired after an accident. It was a minor accident, noone was hurt, and I haven't heard much from my insurers as of yet other than repairs being approved and awaiting a date from the garage. I am unemployed due to disability and have declared this status to my car insurance, but didn't declare any medical conditions as I didn't think I needed to. today I read that 'severe anxiety' is notifiable to insurers & DVLA, I am diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) & depression, but they don't affect my driving in my opinion. My doctor has never spoken to me about driving except for one time where I arrived for an appointment very anxious & she said "how did you get here today?", I said "I walked, I would never drive in this state", which I wouldn't.

Will my insurance company ask what my disability is when putting my claim through seeing as there are no medical conditions declared on my policy ? Should I have told them & DVLA about GAD? I'm really worried that my policy will be voided or worse and I'm not sure whether I've done something wrong!

If it doesn't affect your driving you do not need to advise DVLA (https://www.gov.uk/anxiety-and-driving)

If there was no question on your proposal form regarding disclosure of conditions affecting your driving there should be no problem.
It depends on your proposal form.

just checked my insurance proposal form and it says "do you or any of the drivers have or have a history of diabetes, or any disease or physical or mental infirmity, or fits of any kind? please give full details. if none state none.", below that, it says "have the conditions mentioned above been advised to the dvla and have they agreed to the issue of a licence? If no, please state name of driver below". then, below that, it says "you are reminded that you are required by law to inform the dvla if you have a disability including any physical or mental condition which is or may become likely to affect your fitness as a driver". I'm finding all of this information to be quite conflicting and terribly confusing.

I didn't think of anxiety etc as an "infirmity", is that the case?

I doubt they will question it as they have already authorised repairs.
If they are questioning things they do it before authorising a claim,, as they can hardly decline the claim afterwards!

I thought they could decline the claim afterwards? Also, before the repairs due to get done, my insurance is due to renew, so I'm worried that I'm going to be asked more about my health condition then in light of the crash, and that could possibly void my claim in some way.

            I wouldn't be worrying.
There is nothing you can do anyway, unless and until the insurers raise queries.
