  • Car insurance problem

I am less than 2 weeks from my insurance renewal and I havent received a renewal quote. I can only contact the insurer by phone and they never pick up after two days of trying. I was on a consumer advise help line and on the site that the advisor was looking at she could see web chat. I couldn't see the web chat option on the insurer's site. I suggested I tried a different browser.
Having done that I could see web chat and talked to somebody on web chat. They said they were very busy, strange everybody seems to be busy now days except the unemployed and furloughed. They said they send out quotes 3 weeks before expiry which would have been a week previously.
Not satisfied I asked for somebody from complaints to call me back but in 2 days nobody has. Went back to web chat today and they said the renewal pack sent out on the 4 Feb and today is the 19 Feb.

I noticed that I could do an on line quote on the insurer's web site so posing as a new customer I got a quote £140 less than last year.
If I take this up on the basis they have not offered me the obligation to renew and they subsequently find out that I was already insured through them can they insist I pay more or cancel and leave me uninsured?
