Hi everyone,
Another issue for me with the Dartford Crossing (count yourself lucky if you've never used this part of the M25!)
This is the result of a chain of events so I'll try to explain things clearly (and forgive me if it seems irrelevant at first).
- This vehicle has crossed the Dartford Crossing many times without issue due to a pay-as-you-go account being set up so the driver would not forget to pay the charge
- Around February of this year, the account holder's purse was stolen, so as a result cards were cancelled.
- Unknowingly, one of those cards was the debit card used to top up the dart charge account.
- A few months of using the crossing twice a month progress with no concerns.
- Now in July, two PCNs were received (for both crossings), which was quite a shock.
- It turns out that Dart Charge had charged the account for its balance and then once more until the balance was negative £2, after this they closed the account.
- At absolutely no point did Dart Charge mention that the account was not able to be topped up, or that if had gone into a negative balance, so of course the account holder was under the impression they were being charged as usual (this is a £10 top up every few months, not exactly something you would notice missing from your bank statement).

This is a scan of the PCN, and really just wanted to get thoughts on how best to kick off my case in the interests of spending as little time arguing with Dart Charge as possible! I was thinking 'Procedural impropriety' might be the best option?
I'm hoping they'll see reason (lol, right) and accept the 'late' payment for this (only the crossing value, no more), as they had many opportunities to notify the account holder.
Thoughts and opinions very welcome!
Thanks in advance,
James
