  • Fine for stopping on bus stop

I recently had really major abdominal surgery (more or less as big as you can get). 2 days after discharge, whilst still seriously disabled by the operation, I had to attend the hospital again. My wife drove me, in my car. The traffic came to a halt outside the hospital, so I opened the door and got out as fast as I was able. Obviously, my wife was unable to drive on whilst I was doing this, This happened to be on a bus stop, but there was no bus coming. The car was stationary there for around 40 seconds.

We have now received a PCN from the local council. If we pay now, it costs us £65. Should we just pay this, or is there any kind of appeal/defence with a reasonable chance of success?

I could try a plea in mitigation, but I expect they have heard it all.

    Any suggestions, please?
