Tax Chasing

Hello all,

just some advice needed.

I left the family home, a house just in my name only, to the ex and her 3 kids, as I had met someone else and was living with them

A neighbour told me her and her partner upped and packed a lorry and left in March,

She has not paid me any rent and has fobbed off the council tax.
She has apparently called the council tax office, in FEB, and gave them my Parents address, and told them that where I am living ( no I am not living there )

My mother has called me and says I have 2 letters from council with a bill for Feb and March tax..

My ex HAS not and still has not officially told me shes leaving the house for her own place..

is she stillliable for her part in the tax considering she didn't really leave the house till after the 1st march 2015

Hi ,
Council tax is levied on all the named parties i.e. you and your ex if one fails to pay
the other will be liable, you will have to check the tax bill to see who the named parties
are.
If you did not inform the council you no longer resided at the address and are still named
mu guess is you will have to pay.

Take the matter up with the councils CT department.

If you have proof that you had left the property and that your ex was living there, that will be good ... if not, the council could well be chasing you for the unpaid CT instead of your ex
