Council tax payment

Dear LB,

I have seen some posts on your forum about the Newlyn Bailiff. They had contacted me (FINAL NOTICE) same way to pay for council tax which they are claiming from almost 5 years back when I was student. Now as this is so long time back I was not able to see any back-up and looking at strong letter they sent I did a partial payment to stop harsh action.

As council has never communicated me of any issues and first letter i received was from Newlyn can i go back to them or stop this company to trouble me ?

As 1st thing i did call the council and they said they have checked the records and i will have to pay for the whole council tax for the people when I did not stay there. Can you please guide what to do ?

I forgot to update already paid 240 and they are still asking 500 more.

You need to speak to someone at the Council and ask the following questions:
1 - how many Liability Orders they have against you
2 - the dates they were obtained
3 - the addresses they were for
4 - the period of time each covers
5 - how much each one was for
6 - how much is still outstanding
7 - the dates they were passed on for enforcement
8 - the dates & amounts of any payments
