hi everybody,

just got a letter from the council that we need to attend on the court hearing due to not paying council tax. we have applied for ct benefit many times but have been turned down multiple times, due to not having enough income, we are not able to support ourselfs. I have offered £20/month as this is the only amount we can afford but they have refused it, cas i wont be able to pay it by next March.....(2013).

can anybody advice how to go on court, what to say, accept and what to do?

What you have said doesn't make sense. You say you do not have enough income and are not able to support yourselves, yet have been turned down for CT Benefit. If I were you, I would make an appointment with your local Law Centre or Community Legal Service office, where you can obtain free or very low-cost legal advice. Something is not right and you need competent professional legal advice.

Challenging this is based on the fact of whether you are liable to pay it or not. Your means of whether you can afford it or not do not come into the equation. Following on from what has been said above you should ask your Council/CAB if they have a Welfare Rights Adviser you can see.

thank you for the reply. yes I know it does not make any sense and I called council up on this. they were confused didnt know what to say at first but we have been denied any help. i did go to the alleged court hearing tday and i was absolutely amazed....(posted under "is ct fake???") i do have questions I need someone to answer and I have been at the CAB but they are as big of a waste of time and space as council itself.I dont know whats going on but something is not right.
