Hi,
Could really do with some advice.
My partner has received a council tax summons for next week relating to a property she lived in with her ex husband.
The summons only has her name on it despite that the council tax bill was in both names, I know that she is jointly liable for the whole sum outstanding but I thought the summons would still have to be in both names. Is this right?
She disputes the amount owed in total anyway, but again has been told that the only thing discussed at the hearing will be the liability issue not any disagreement in the total. Seems a bit harsh given she has contacted the council and been told that its too complicated to explain why money is outstanding but she most just believe them when they say it is.......
She requested a full statement of transactions from them for that year period and was told not possible due to the large amount of transactions on it.
Is she legally entitled to any information from the council and is there an appeals system beyond the council as they seem totally uninterested in even clarifying why the total is outstanding.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
