  • Tribunal Process

In a Billing disagreement or dispute on council Tax, what is the process involved to appeal and a resolution to a disagreemnet on a Billing statement from the local Authority and a citizen?

Is it through a Tribunal, or is their a preliminary process before a tribunal?

I am not happy with the reply given to me by the council in relation to the information I have provided, the council Tax is currently been paid, I am in dispute with them regarding a past period, which was a result of miscommunication.

I sought an explanation of the amount they are seeking, and a break down of that figure, but did not get one only a whole figure. Is their a special Person or dept you can seek this information from in the council, and some body on the outside the council, apart from citizen advice, who have a huge backlog and workload.

I provided the information they required, they have not answered my questions properly or taken any account of my replies. they are saying now I can appeal through a Tribunal.

What is the process, steps I need to take, can I ask the council for a fully explaination, and breakdown of the amount and reason they are saying it is due?

What's the best way to word this?

I don't know the process of a Tribunal, or costs involved. I know it is an independent process.
How long on average does the process take, how many years to a Tribunl hearing on average?

Whilst this is going on, can they keep adding interest to the payment in dispute?

Could it affect their credit rating?

I am a student, unemployed of limited means. It was never a case of me not wanting to pay the council Tax due.

Thank you very much for your information provided.
