  • Vulnerable person in council tax debt

    Hi

I have received a visit from Marston Recovery from a very nasty enforcement agent who ended up screaming at me down the phone when I asked him if there was a payment plan I could put into place, once made aware of me being a vulnerable person, he became even worse and began threatening to come to my house today (instead of 5 days like his letter from today said) he also refused to acknowledge that I have a vulnerability without seeing my medical record. I offered to send him evidence, to which he said he would only see it in person, meaning I’d have to open the door to him to speak to him, which I’ve been advised not to do by Citizens advice bureau.
I have called Marston to put a complaint against him. However they were extremely uninterested.
I have also contacted my council to see if they would bring the debt back considering how they have treated me, and me being a vulnerable person. To which they said they can’t, I said that I have been advised that they can if they wanted, and the woman point blank said “let me reword that, we will not be taking back the debt” I was issued 2 warnings and a court summons, unfortunately I was in hospital giving birth to my daughter which ended up having complications which meant I stayed in hospital for longer than expected and when I came home it was already too late. I should have called them as soon as I got out of hospital to try and fix but just have my baby and suffering with my learning disability and mental health problems I just buried my head in the sand.
i have begged the council to take the debt back so I can do a payment plan with them but they have refused, is there anything I can do? I did see on the main advice for council tax bailiffs that someone could potentially help to write a letter regarding being a vulnerable person and them reclaiming their debt.

    Any help appreciated please

Send or/ email the Council / Councillor and Marstons the following letter (amend), make sure you get Proof of Postage -

        https://nationaldebtline.org/get-inf...vulnerable-ew/

        To complain - https://marstonholdings.co.uk/marsto...mplaints-form/

Here's an income and expenditure form, give yourself 'head room' if things go up drastically.
Remember there is a 'Cost of Living' crisis.

Get in touch personally with your local councillor. This is what they do (I am one of them!) Explain what you explained in your post and ask for their help. Ask them to speak to the council tax dept on your behalf and get you some help. They are not really interested in the behaviour of Marstons - tackle that as above - but you should mention it to them as a reason why this is urgent
