I still can't quite believe this letter that dropped through the letterbox today. Would like to hear other's opinions and on how to deal with this.
Today a letter from the Council arrived, it is addressed by name to a former resident then c/o my address. This person has not lived at this address for over 25 years. The reason I know this is is that the person in question is a sibling. I opened the letter without realising the full name, the envelope has the Borough Council name and coat of arms on it and our surnames are the same.
The letter states that there is a balance of Council Tax owing from another property (in the same council borough) which I know the sibling lived at and sold about 3 years ago.
I have no contact with this sibling and do not intend to have. I am concerned that my address is being associated with a debt that is nothing to do with me or anyone else who lives here. I'm also shocked that some kind of (missguided) connection has been made from 25+ years ago.
What is the best way of dealing with the letter? Do I simply return to sender, addressee unkown?
