  • CT bill from 2008 at a multiple-occupancy property

Hello I'm after a bit of advice.

I received a CT bill for a multiple-occupancy student property I lived at during my college years. I received only one letter on the 21/04/2021 before receiving a Notice of enforcement from Dukes bailifs less than one month later on the 17/05/2021. The initial letter is the only correspondence I've had from Bournemouth Council on this matter. I have contacted in writing the Councils Benefits Service with my concerns (them being all bills were included and I was never the liable person to pay council tax at this property) as was suggested I do on said letter. However rather than a reply, I've had a 14 day warning ( well 9 day as I didn't receive the enforcement letter until the 22nd, 5 days after issue) that bailifs are coming to my property to recover said debt.

What are my rights here and what do I need to worry about? Can I stop the bailifs while I chase the council for answers a prove my innocence? Or have they sold the debt and now I'm royally screwed? It's pretty frightening.
