Hi
I recently left Bradford and moved to Lancaster for a job.
I received a letter from Bradford Council regarding council tax that I owe for previous years, I don't dispute that I do owe Council tax quite the opposite. I emailed Bradford Council about their latest letter and asked them to reply by email.
Today whilst at work I received a phone call from them, to explain about the money I owe, again I do not dispute that I owe monies, however when I asked for a break down I was given one over the telephone. I asked that this be put in a letter and sent to me. I was told that this was not possible because my account is closed!
The person on the other end of the phone seemed to have no difficulty reeling off figures from various years, which must have come from my "closed" account.
Am I within my rights to have this broken down and supplied to me in writing? After all if someone says that you owe them a thousand pounds do you just hand it over on their say so or is it not prudent to ask for some proof as to the exact figure? I am of course being threatened with court action.
Thank you for any help or advice that anyone is able to give into this situation.
Kenny.
