Overhanging Loft Space (bedroom)

I've been in my house for 32 years. My new neighbour of 1 year is saying he wants his loft space back.
The space is a fully converted and used child/teenagers bedroom, and was so when we purchased the property almost 32 years ago. We can trace the existing layout back to 1960 (almost 60 years)
We both bought our properties as seen at the time of purchase. Ours was 2/3 bedroom and next door as a 2 bedroom.
It was only when my wife showed our neighbour round that she saw our loft style extra room.
Can they force us after all this time to give up our room ?

Would the 12 year rule (adverse possession) be applicable here?

Sounds like the new neighbour saw the extra room and checked his deeds which show the flying freehold part so decided to try get it 'back'. But I think as it has been used as part of your property for such a long time, and that can be traced back to the 60's, the 12 year rule might come in - but [MENTION=87380]Diana M[/MENTION]; will know for certain.

If the title plan doesnt show that part of the property as yours ( outlined ) , its worth looking in the council archives for this origional docs if there not online. Its not unuusual,

What is the wording of the caim they are asking/making. ??

It could be extreemly costly and complex for him to take any action.. he will need proper specialist convayors, lots of the history of the property.
