  • Can I walk away from my freehold company share

Myself and 5 other leaseholders clubbed together and purchased the freehold of our building a few years ago (there were also 3 other leaseholders who opted not to chip in). At the same time as we were negotiating on the purchase of the freehold i was selling my leasehold interest. In a rather peculiar turn of events i ended up selling the l/hold and retaining a share in the f/hold. The other f/holders are of courses also leasholders. The f/hold earns a nominal amount from ground rent but has very little value to anyone other than a l/holder. A few years later and there are dry rot problems in the basement. There is discussion as to whether the f/holders or the service charges should fix this problem. Either way the management company feels it is the freeholders responsibility to fund the project (which requires immediate attention) and worry about who pays the final bill later. As i no longer have a l/hold interest and have little interest in the building i would rather forego my share than sort out the mess. Can i simply walk away and effectively cancel my share? I have had a read of the Articles of Association and it is not clear.
