We are trying to work out when we will able to purchase our council house under the Right to Buy scheme. Here is our timeline:
Jan 2012: moved into council ran homeless shelter (after a being made bankrupt), paid for by HB.
Apr 2012: moved into temporary unsecured council property, paid for by HB.
Sept 2013: moved into present home (council property), initially paid for by HB - now off all benefits as working. Started an "introductory 12 month tenancy".
August 2014: now been told that our tenancy will be a "secure tenancy" from Sept. 2014 onwards.
What I am trying to establish is the approx. earliest date that we can apply to purchase our council house under the RTB scheme? On reading through various websites and forums it isn't clear to me when the 5 years starts (as technically we will have been council tenants in one form or another since Jan 2012, and we will be secure tenants from next month onwards).
Jan 2017? Apr 2017? or Sept. 2018?
