Can anyone advise I called n power out 2 weeks ago I pay monthly for boiler cover, my boiler had switched it self off and I didn't know how to put back on, he came out said oh I'm not sure how this works eventually got it on said strange it's gone out shouldn't do that and left no testing etc. So it kept doing it but as he showed me how to put it on I did this each time but was happening more I thought I will call them again so another engineer comes today and said it was clogged up and releasing carbon monoxide and condemned it said you need new boiler, he said readings went off the scale and marked the paperwork extremely dangerous. This should of been tested 2 weeks ago when they first come out my family has been put at risk through them. This is the second time I have had issues with n power last time they came out to do initial inspection they passed it then they came to service it he condemned it as unsafe vents so one engineer passed it the other condemned it a year later so another year we were at risk. Can I do anything about this ie complaint or legal action we are now without a boiler

No it doesn't unfortunately but I am annoyed with n power for compromising the safety of my family AGAIN

All technicians servicing or installing gas appliances must be GasSafe-registered. It is an offence to service, install or do any work on gas appliances without such registration. If you have the names of the technicians, report them to GasSafe. I would also report this to your local Environmental Health Department first thing Monday morning without fail. What the last technician, who condemned the boiler, found is of much concern. NPower will do everything they can to cover their own backsides, but if you involve Environmental Health, they are more likely to get a rocket up their backsides. You might also wish to speak to Trading Standards as there may be issues under Trading Standards Law as well as gas safety.

They were n power engineers so I'm sure they will be registered I'm guessing the first engineer is the one in question, I don't have his name but I will be getting it. Do I call n power first or the above as you advised

All gas technicians must be GasSafe-registered to work on domestic gas appliances. They must also be registered to work on commercial gas appliances, if they install or service such appliances.

If you want my honest view on this, I would report the matter to Environmental Health and Trading Standards first. I would not advise speaking to NPower first and letting them talk you into not involving EH. We are talking matters of public safety. That is not something to be taken lightly. Be guided by EH and TS as to whether you should speak to NPower or let them do any talking.

Just looked at engineer report it says combustion ratings off the scale immediately dangerous condemned. So is this meaning for last 2 weeks I was at risk of boiler blowing up????

If that is what it says, that is what it says. I wouldn't even bother ringing NPower. First thing Monday morning, ring EH and TS without fail. This is serious. It seems very likely NPower have put you, your family, neighbours and others in danger. I would not be surprised if EH want to string up the entire board of directors of NPower by their gonads. The engineers could be looking at prosecution and so could NPower.

Get in an independent gas fitter to examine the boiler. Don't give him any inkling of the purpose to which you will put his report.

Excellent advice and worth its weight in gold. If EH and TS are each provided with copies of said report, it gives them a bloody big stick to beat NPower with.

But the boiler has been capped off so surely he will know something is not right

Yes it will have been tagged as unsafe also, I would imagine. Red stickers around the inlet pipes and valves ?

When you speak to EH and TS on Monday, ask if they would like you to arrange an independent engineer's report. They may arrange one themselves, but it is worth asking them first.
