  • Making additional payments to one's mortgage

Wife & I earlier this year wrote to Halifax asking them about this. Naturally, they failed to respond so we started paying an extra £xx per week towards it. Last month, we wrote to them again, asking if they are applying the payments to the account and to date they have not responded. I have tried to call them but am passed around umpteen menus and then get stuck on hold for up to ten minutes and I simply won't do this any more.

So, Question: if we make, via Standing Order, extra payments to that account, will they be added or can Halifax block extra payments to a mortgage account. It's a straight repayments mortgage, FWIW.

Don't think they can block the payment,ie refuse to accept it, but there may be penalties for early repayment.
Here's a link to their helpful ? website if you haven't found it already http://www.halifax.co.uk/mortgages/specialfeatures.asp
