  • School Safety Zone

A friend of mine lives facing a school and they've had notification that the school has been chosen as one that would benefit from a SSZ.

Effectively if it goes through, it would mean that they couldn't park their car outside their property between 8am-9am and 3pm-4pm Monday to Friday. As you can imagine, it's a nightmare trying to find anywhere to park near the school during these hours as it is, so even if they were prepared to move their car twice a day they would probably have to move it a few streets away.

Whilst this is an emotive subject, as we all want the children to be safe, this will really affect their lives, not to mention affect the house prices of the properties in the zone. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience in this area and if so, do you have any advice I could pass on please?

Has your friend spoken to their local ward councillor about this and are things at the consultation stage or more advanced? Once this is known, it will be easier to advise which path to follow.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.

      Thanks for the reply, bluebottle.

As far as I'm aware they haven't as yet spoken to anybody, and are just in the process of organising a meeting of the residents involved. To answer your other question, it's at the consultation stage and they have been supplied with a residents questionnaire to complete. Which basically consists of ' Will you respect the conditions and agree not to park your vehicle within the zoned area during the relevant times' Then there is an option if you said 'No' to give your reasons.
