  • how do I claim my compensation

I am wondering if anyone with legal expertise in housing disrepair matters would advise me. I moved to a property in 2017 with my one-year-old son. I quickly learned that the property is infested with severe damp and mould, and the landlord decorated prior to my move to cover up the issue. I reported the issue to the landlord. The condition deteriorated quickly, and suddenly I had mushrooms growing out of the walls. Over one year, I called the repair team multiple times. Eventually, I sought legal action against the council. However, I had a disagreement with the lawyer, and I asked them to stop working on my case. The law firm asked me to take my case elsewhere. However, the repairs were already done , hence most of the legal firms are not willing to take the case on. The damp and mould have returned now partially due to a different leak (different from the previous one), but mainly I think it's a structural problem as many neighbouring houses face the same issue. The issue is that I have received no compensation from the landlord, although the house was declared "not suitable for habitation," and I was staying with friends for some time until the landlord carried out the necessary repairs. I have live case in the court and an active legal aid certificate, but cant find firm to take my case on. I was advised on what to do: A, to contact the court and opt for self-representation (very difficult), or B, to go through the landlord complaint process.
