Leaving a tenancy without giving 4 weeks notice?

Hi. I live in a shared house Monday to Friday agreement. I pretty desperately need to move into a new 7 day a week place, and one has come up that is popular and wants me to move in next week.

I have paid rent to take me up to Wednesday. If i were to leave on that day, with my rent fully paid up to my final day I know I would lose my deposit. But could I legally be required to keep paying rent even though I will have moved out?

Possibly. If you agree to a contract that provides for 4 weeks notice but only give shorter notice, you commit a breach of contract. A claim for the shortfall cannot be ruled out.

OK thank you. I've only just thought about it and me paying a month's rent and then receiving my deposit back is similar amount to if I just left. I'll just talk honestly with the landlady and see what she says.
