  • Obtaining evidence from Council's Environmental Health Dept

    Hi all,

Recently I reported my landlord to the council due to long-standing housing disrepair. I had been reporting various disrepair since 2020 (by SMS) with promises that repairs would be made, but never were.

The council's Environmental Health Dept were finally notified and came to do an inspection and made a report.

They have since that time refused to disclose any information in regard to that report. They ordered the landlord to do the repairs. Some have now been done (2 years after the landlord was first put on notice) but not all repairs have been done.

What legislation is there which prevents the Environmental Health Dept from disclosing the findings of their inspection? How can I get this information from the council? They have told me there were numerous Category 1 and 2 hazards but not said what they were. My understanding is Environmental Health Depts produce a report with a HHSRS (Housing Health and Safety Rating System) Score. I would like all of this information in order to pursue a claim against the landlord for breach of contract with regard to repairing obligations over a long period of time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You must get your own evidence.

I agree. I assume that you can point first hand to the wants of repair.
