  • On going insurance claim after flooding

Hi people my partner is in the middle of a long winding insurance claim after two flooded basement in July 2021. Please could anybody help me with a few questions.

1 can we get our own loss adjuster in or does it have to be one from the insurance company?

At the start of the claim the 1st loss adjuster gave the green light and said our claim was valid but now the builder has suggested there could be an other issue 14 months later and now the insurance company are talking about get a second loss adjuster in??

2 we are not happy with the current builder (bad workmanship, time taken to reinstate the property etc (he's completed the 1st basement but is stalling on starting the 2nd basement and making things complicated ) we don't feel he's capable of completing such a big job and want a fresh start as the relationships beyond repair (the insurance company/loss adjuster chose this builder)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

finally we really need some help and advice and have researched online and found a company called MORGAN CLARKEwho seem to be on the customers side and not the insurace which makes a change. Even if we are half way throu the claim can we get them in to help/ take over . We plan on speaking to them tomoz on the phone as its gone on for too long and we need help

    Thanks again

You can certainly appoint (and probably pay) your own loss adjuster (who actually as he is working for you is more properly a loss assessor).
Los Adjusters, altho' instructed by the insurers are (technically) impartial

You can also complain to the insurers about the builder they instructed and request that any poor workmanship is corrected.

When you claim on your insurance, what you do is to request them to pay you for your loss under the policy, but one of te conditions of such payment is that you support their claim against the person causing the claim. The loss adjuster is therefore appointed by them to represent their interests in that claim, and you secondarily.
Yes you can appoint your own loss assessor, but expect to pay the costs.

Hi! 1. You can absolutely get your own loss adjuster in, and you may even want to consider doing so if you're not happy with the current builder. The insurance company may be more likely to listen to a third party, and you may be able to get a better outcome that way. You can also seek advice from this insurance company to clarify things. 2. If you're not happy with your current builder, it may be worth speaking to the insurance company and loss adjuster to see if you can get a new builder assigned to the job. Starting fresh with a new builder may be in everyone's best interests. As for Morgan Clarke, they may be able to help you even if you're already halfway through the claim process. It's worth a shot to give them a call and see what they can do.
