Hi,
I currently rent a property on a fixed term 12 month tenancy and I am 5 months into contract. There are no early exit clauses in my contract.
Yesterday as I was dropping my children at school my 10 year old boy slipped on either the metal tips that are at the end of each step or part of the carpet which is uneven to the metal tips and lifting in sections.
He fell down 16 metal tipped stairs repeatedly hitting his head and body and fell into a sharp wooden corner at the bottom with such impact that part of the wood came away.
He was classed as a major trauma due to the fall and an ambulance came. He was taken to hospital where he was assessed and is literally covered in bruises and grazes
He has a soft tissue injury to his knee, and he broke his right arm and left shoulder during the fall.
The ambulance crew themselves commented that they couldn't believe such a steep higher than average stairscase had metal tips on each step.
Basically I don't want to live here anymore. The stairs are not maintained properly or this wouldnt have happened.
I genuinely don't know how my child managed to escape the fall yesterday without a head injury or broken neck, it was awful.
Is there any way I can request an immediate exit from my tenancy in light of the above as I just feel really unsafe getting two children down these steps now. There are no alternative steps and no elevator.
Thanks
