  • New Boiler Guarantee Problem

I had a new boiler installed a couple of months ago, by an accredited Worcester Bosch installer who is also a Which Trusted Trader. It was advertised with a 10 year guarantee, but Bosch customer services say it is only for 8 years, and two months after the boiler was installed, I am still having problems getting my 10 year guarantee, despite the installer having said that he had contacted them a month ago to sort it out.

It was advertised on the installer's website and I assume must be part of the contract, but can anyone tell me what my legal position would be if I end up with an 8 year guarantee?

What (if anything) was said about the guarantee on any quotation that you received and accepted?

worcester is 8 years- mind you with worcester as I found out means very little thankfully I got a whole new system of another make and all fine now, Bosch worcester pulled my hair out and regulator useless to say the least they expected faults to go on after so called repairs by their staff and others registered corgi, corgi stated as corrected your complaint cannot be looked into? you know middle winter and they expected me to wait for them to send somebody in 2- 3 weeks. type situation.

If you have copy of the statement about 10 years then you may have a case. but of course misdirection could come into play.
      Greenstar Gas Boilers

The guarantee on Greenstar gas boilers starts from 5 years. However, we offer an exclusive 10 year guarantee to customers who choose a local Worcester Bosch Accredited Installer to install their boiler along with a Worcester Bosch Greenstar system filter.

      Find a local Installer

ome different guarantees due to type boiler.

The quote stated that the boiler comes with a 10-year guarantee and when the installer said he had arranged it with Bosch 5 weeks ago today, he emailed me to say that he had registered the boiler and said I should get a email in due course confirming a 10 year guarantee.

He also replied today to say that he had registered the boiler properly, but that is not what I am being told by Bosch customer service.

It seems that your first step must be to ask the installer to sort out the problem with Bosch saying the guarantee has not been registered.

I have already just done that, but he is away at the moment and seems unwilling to call them again, saying that when he returns he would send me the information that he has that says I have a 10 year guarantee. However, this isn't the same as getting the promised guarantee from Bosch, who still say I only have 8 years.

Maybe I should start another thread about other issues with him, but will mention one of them which is a safety issue that is not being taken seriously. e.g. the attached image shows an incompletely soldered joint on the mains gas inlet pipe, but his employee who did the work was here for 5 minutes yesterday and denied any problem without even looking at it. As a former engineer myself, it seemed clear to me that he had just been sent to fob me off.

If you wish to complain about the safety of a gas installation, the work of an engineer or about the service provided by the Gas Safe Register you should contact the Consumer Complaints section of the Gas Safe Register.18 Dec 2020 Gas Safe Register - HSE

check if the fitter is registered? first, if not another procedure> but if the fitter still has not corrected bad workmanship and refuses then make complain straight away to gas safety as they will want to see workmanship they cannot investigate after anybody else corrects and problem

The owner/fitter who signed the completion certificate was working elsewhere for most of the day and his colleague did most of the work but they are both on the Gas Safe Register and the business is a Which Trusted Trader.

So much of my time has been wasted on issues with uncommunicative and/or incompetent traders over the last couple of years and this fitter seemed to believe that he could do no wrong so thanks for the link - I am going to take your advice.
