  • Private garage next to me being left to rot.

I live in a semi detached house. On the side of my house with no attachment, there is a double garage which is owned by two separate parties. Owner A owns one side and Owner B owns the other.. Owner A owns the side of the garage that is directly next to my property. The two owners do not live on the same road as the garage. Owner A lives just around the corner and Owner B lives in another city.. As a result, the two owners never get to see the state of disrepair of the garage. It's also a bit of a wind trap for litter and they never see that I've cleaned it up for them (I did seek their approval as I knew they wouldn't do it themselves).

Lately the side of the garage directly adjoining my property (Owner A's side) is starting to deteriorate. Tiles are coming from the roof, the door has fallen apart, more recently neighbourhood kids have noticed this and kicked it in. I've also been informed that it looks like "the main structure is unsound and won't last many more years anyway". Though I'm not sure about that last part.

I'm seeking advice on how to proceed with this with regards to it being an eyesore and building that is left to rot however more importantly, I would like to do what I can to protect my own property and my family. I don't want a garage to fall into my drive and the walkway to my house. I'm equally planning on doing work on that side of my land and fear any sort of movement near the building may cause it more damage which I might end up liable for.

I have attached pictures of the garage and I would greatly appreciate any input on this matter.

    Hi Euroclives

You could write to your neighbours telling them that the structure is 'unsafe' and could cause harm to others, as in it's current state it is dangerous.

Advise then the next step is to contact the local Council.

Keep copies of the letters, you can them forward them to your local council.

Are you in a position to make an offer to buy these garages? This might be a route worth exploring.
