  • Double glazing guarantee

I’ve moved into a house that had a transferrable guarantee for the windows that’s been passed on by the previous occupiers. I have 4 windows where the seals have failed and they have condensation between the glass. I am within the guarantee period but when I phoned up to query the guarantee and to ask for the windows to be replaced I’ve been told that I should have notified them within 28 days of moving into the property.
There is nothing in the contract to state that I needed to notify them and it is written on the front of the contract that it is transferable.
Looking at the contract it would suggest that I am in the right and they should replace the windows but I’ve been told to put a complaint in.
    Just looking for anyones thoughts?

    Hi GOPHER123

Follow their Complaints procedure, if your still not happy find out if they are members of any Ombudsman Services or arbitration schemes, then lodge a complaint with them. They tend to be free.

The best way to complain is in writing. Company over the phone give you a load of tosh.

on the information provided, you are entitled to insist on compliance with the guarantee.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

Please attached contract stating 20 year transferable guarantee. The TOCs on the reverse of the documentation state that it is not transferable!

Can you put up a better copy / underline the 'non transferable bit'. also the hand written 20 year guarantee, has circled 'NO' and 'X' over 'YES', I think that should be the other way around, in fact 'YES' should be circled.
