  • Regulated Tenancy

This question is about a Regulated Residential Tenancy that began in the1970s. The holder of the tenancy is my girl friend’s mother. My girl friend lives with her mother.

we understand that on the death of mother, daughter can ‘inherit’ the tenancy, possibly under a different financial arrangement. Currently the rent is at a substantial discount to the market rate.

Now I realise that these sorts of agreements must be increasingly rare, but my question is, when/if daughter inherits, is it possible (given that these tenancies are still regulated), to predict with any accuracy, what the new financial arrangement is likely to be?

    thank you

Nothing to do with a new financial arrangement, rent will more or less stay the same.

Succession rights for regulated tenancy are governed by the 1977 Rent act, as amended. It also depends on how long the daughter has been living with the mother for, can I ask how old the daughter is ?
