  • Name not on house deeds.

    Hi good folks!

Newbie here in awe of all the great advice being given!

I am in a bit of a pickle and hoping for some advice please.

Basically, a few years back I bought a new house with my ex-partner. I couldn't get a new mortgage due to bad credit, however, I had equity in the property I owned at the time before we bought the new house.

I sold my house and we used the equity towards the purchase the new house (£40k) but the mortgage and deeds are in my ex-partners name and I am not named anywhere as having any form of claim against the property.

I think I should have put my name on the deeds when we bought the house but I was advised by my ex that this would not be possible?

The relationship ended badly and I moved out of the house. I am trying to start a new life. I need to at least receive the money I deposited in the house we shared to be able to secure reasonable accommodation, however, my ex refuses to repay the money I put towards the house they now live in.

I would be grateful for any advice as to how I can reclaim the money from the house if it is at all possible. I can evidence that my equity in the house I sold was put towards payment of the shared house but other than that I have no other documentation.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you Echat, really appreciate you taking the time to help.

I've read the info on the website, I paid the house deposit and towards the mortgage and bills every month so I'm hoping I can find a satisfactory resolution.

If anyone else has any experience in these matters I would truly appreciate your advice!
