    Hi I recently bought a detached house with a driveway at the front entered through the front as the wall was removed. I also own an access path to the side of the house, approx two feet wide which leads to the back garden. The neighbour owns the other half of the path. The entrance to the path leads to the road and the neighbour uses this entrance to access their driveway in front of their house. From what I understand my driveway was also accessed this way prior to the wall been removed and a fence put up at the side of this in line with my property. I want to remove this fence and put the boundary along the path so as all the land I own is fenced in rather than a separate shared path. As such I've blocked the shared entrance so the neighbour can no longer access their drive. When they asked me to move the stuff I told me it's my land and they can't drive on it. They have now had their lawyer write to me asking me to move it to allow them to use their drive as they have been doing so for over forty year. Surely its my land so i can do as I please with it and they have no right to expect to just use my path to access their drive. Should I just ignore them and continue with my plans?

    hmmmm would not ignore their claim

    I assume they are claiming a prescriptive right
    Contact the previous owners of your property and see if they gave permission, or just allowed usage by the neighbour.

      Check your deeds. I've had property where half the drive is owned but the other part have a right of way.
