My neighbour who is 86yr and has lived in his house since 1972 which he brought with his late wife (d 2006) remarried in September 2020.
In 2019 he was diagnosed with Dementia and has slowly been struggling to remember things.
In March this year his new wife decided to put the house up for sale to move into a bungalow and the house sold in 2 days but this is where the problems begin as they (the new wife) cannot find the deeds to the house, the house owner Mr A cannot remember where he put/stored them, he doesn't know which solicitors, building society or even when he paid the mortgage off.
We have contacted the Land Registry and they have no record of the property (built in '66').
We have looked everywhere in the house but cannot find them (we suspect one of his offspring has them as the will is missing as well but cannot prove it)
We have been told that we have to prove he has lived there and owns the house since '72' but for some unknown reason there is no paperwork before 2000 i.e bills, insurance ect.
We have lived next door for 30 yr and there are people in our street who have known him longer than that.
At this moment we are email all the known solicitors around the time of purchase and going into the building societies to see if they have any records regarding the house purchase.
We are clutching at straws to try and find a way out of this, we did think of contacting the local council as he would of had to pay rates so i would assume his name would be there from '72' or even the electoral roll.
Can anybody lead us in the right direction.
Thanks
