  • Application for homelessness

Hi im a 29 year old Male who suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia and extreme anxiety.

I'm currently looking to move from my flat to another due to bad neighbors and extremely noisy neighbors. Also my flat is located next to a communal garden which keeps me up at night because of the noise from people using it.

I'm looking to become homeless on the grounds that I'm feeling suicidal and my flat is making my mental health worse. Which is totally true.

My question is how do I go about this as I have heard it might mean they label me intentionally homeless.

I know about "homelessness application" but I'm unsure if it will be worth doing. The fact that I'm suicidal and have GP and physciatrist letters saying this.

So where do I start. Should I call the council or what?

I can't see myself being here for another year it's that bad.

    Thanks

I strongly advise you Not to make yourself intentionally homeless route, it could backfire on you and end up with No roof over your head.

Have you spoken with the council about the situation as well ? I don't know if you are currently in a council tenant, or if your neighbours are, but most councils have housing needs officers you can talk through options with and potentially look at taking action against neighbours if the noise is excessive. Definitely speak with Mind or your mental health worker as they may be able to assist talking with the council or help with other housing options. If it is 'normal' day to day noise they may be able to talk through coping strategies etc.

Also consider things like whether there's any improvements the landlord might be able to make - double glazing / door trim etc - to assist noise reduction.
