Hi. I'm new to this website. Here's the problem. I'm Guarantor (and deposit payer) for a rented property occupied solely by a friend. The property is in England. Yesterday evening the Police forced entry into the property by breaking the Eurolock. My friend was inside and was arrested. This was confirmed by a Police control room operator when I phoned, concerned for his welfare. It was also confirmed that the Police have had a new lock barrel fitted. Unfortunately they have left the property insecure, there is an upstairs window wide open, and at least one light has been left switched on. A neighbour reckons that, as Guarantor, the Police have to provide me with a key on request. A Police officer has refused this request, although he has stated that if I contact a solicitor and am able to quote the relevant legislation he will reconsider. Is the neighbour correct (he seems adamant) and if so can any expert guide me to the relevant (civil) law. Any help much appreciated.
Can a Guarantor request a key from the Police?
