Hi,
I recently was using a spade in my garden and about 10cm below the grass surface I hit a electricity cable causing it to spark and pop. Stupidly I continued to clear the cable but I had to call SSE out who quickly repaired it. Yesterday I got a bill for £505.95 for 5 hours at time and a half rate. I argued that they hardly had to do any digging and I asked them not top back fill the actual work only took about 40 minutes and they stood around their vans chatting and reading their mobiles for ages after they'd finished. Today I get a reduced bill for 4.25 hours and a new total due of £436.18.
I thought I'd claim on my house insurance as I have never ever made a claim before. They rejected it as I didn't take out the extended cover as mentioned in my renewal enclosure - see attached file. I disagreed as the policy document on page 9 item 10 would cover me for accidental damage to cables. I was told that was an optional cover that I hadn't taken out. I pointed out that the optional cover is stated on the same page item 12 and that cables came under the non optional standard cover in item 10.
He did tell me that they've never had a claim for cable damage before.
Could someone please have a look and see if I'm barking up the wrong tree or if I could possibly put a claim in to them via MOL?
Many thanks
