  • My dad wants to kick me out of the house but my mum wants me to stay

My dad wants to kick me out of the house but my mum wants me to stay.

I'm 25 and will be starting a PhD in October on a low stipend.

My dad pays for the bills in the house.

The house is jointly on both my parents names.

I know for sure that if both my parents wanted to kick me out of the house that I would have to go in an instant. However I am unclear about where I stand legally when one parent wants to me stay and the other wants me to leave.

Can I stay in my parents house if my mum insists that I stay but my dad wants me out?

If one parent consents to you staying then that is enough for you to stay. I do believe there is no legal answer to this, so I would suggest you try to sit down with both your parents or even go to family counselling to try sort out whatever issues you have with your father.

At 25 I would think that your father thinks that you should be at an age when you should be able to support yourself rather than relying on others. I can understand his feelings. There must be many others studying as you do that manage to look after themselves

time to get onto your own feet, get out and get a life of your own,

you could be starting a family argument , commonsense must prevail at your age,

You can stay there as long as your mom let you to. But I think it's time to find your own place.
