    Re: GP Appointments

Going in today and I am gonna tell the GP straight, I cannot work where I am anymore and he has to help me. Even hubby says if I stay there I am gonna have a nervous breakdown!!!

I know the receptionists have jobs to do, but there is a way of doing it. Personally I don't care who knows I'm falling to bits and I'm being held together with duct tape and pritstick.. it's the fact they told a woman with mental health issues.. to her face to give herself a shake.

This woman admitted it, said "Oh it's just for a repeat perscribtion, not an emergency!!"

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm yeh it is!! When you are on drugs that could save your life, running out of them is an emergency!!

Going to the new surgery today to see how that goes, I'm kinda hoping this doctor gives me a nice letter saying TRANSFER THIS WOMAN NOW!!!!

          Re: GP Appointments

Does your GP have online services? In my case I just make the appointment online and request repeat prescriptions the same way. It is also not mandatory for me to say why I want to see a GP using this method.

What painkillers did he give you? I take tramadol from time to time.

                  Oh I like tramadol.

Funnily enough just been given medical advice by the receptionist. Told me to stop taking lanzoprozole because I am on doxycycline but I'm on it for a month so I don't think so.

And before anyone with a smutty mind thinks - it's for chronic sinus infection

Seems like you and me both suffer from sinus problems. I can't take antibiotics anymore because they cause havoc in my stomach.

                      Two observations on this thread:

                      1. Often receptionists are asked by the GPs to screen appointment requests, one of our local GP practices have Nurses who deal with minor ailments, these can also prescribe.
                      2. The same surgery will allow repeat prescriptions to be dispensed by a local pharmacy who even will deliver them. The only time the GP is involved if is a new medication.

                        Absolutely agree
However it should not be the receptionists call as to what is serious and what is not , equally they should not give out medical advice although i am sure in most cases it is done with the best of intentions.

To be fair to my surgery most cases when asked what is wrong they seem to either get a GP call back or make an appointment; Ironically with me , the olast time I was told it was only for emergencies I said it was ok because I had spoken to the Drs at the weekend and even had an ambulance out who said it was just a stomach upset, I went to the sit and wait the following morning to be sent in with a burst appendix.

I've had surgery and it did help bit. I saw another ENT consultant and he said further surgery would be 'unethical'.

I sometimes wonder if one of my teeth are cracked/infected but there seems to be no sign of this. I have even undergone a cone beam CT scan and am due for another.

I've lost a lot of faith in the medical profession. My uncle has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I heard the news yesterday. He went to see his GP etc. numerous times and they claimed it was just an infection. He's just had a colonoscopy and been given 6 to 12 months.

Problem is these clinicians can get away with murder as to prove they were negligent is one seriously difficult feat. They all cover each other's backsides too. I've raised complaints with GMC and GDC on a number of occasions and they have been seriously bias in my opinion - they're essentially an old boys club.

I know it may come as a surprise but i was trying to be nice about receptionists. Again I must say most of them are nice especially those that have been around long enough to remember my ex and my stepson - probably think it a miracle I am only slightly insane :-)

Sadly i think I do need to be off the pop for a while although if I take the antibiotic in the morning and the bottle of vodka in the evening- will that work?
