Help overruling unfair Asda Ban!!

Hi All,
I'm looking for some advice reference something that happened today which I'm both embarrassed and upset about.
I entered a local Asda store with my partner and my 18 month old who was sat in the trolley. We proceeded upstairs to view the George section where I picked up some baby items totalling no more than £11 and hung them on the front of the trolley (so they don't crease and run the risk of getting soiled by any food purchases). We then went into the cafe Instore to have lunch and feed my little one and left the trolley outside, returning to claim it an hour later and proceeded to complete our grocery shop. By the time we got the the till (manned by a member of staff rather than self scan) I had forgotten about the clothes which were still hanging at the front of the trolley and loaded and paid for all my items from the trolley (totalling more than £55) and then proceeded to leave the store. We were approached in the foyer by a lady identifying herself as a store detective who advised us that there were items that hadn't been paid for and pointed out the clothing. I apologised and explained that it was an oversight and offered to return to a till to pay for them at which point we were spoken to in a very abrupt and curt manner and escorted to a holding room!! I was absolutely mortified and couldn't believe the extreme that the member of staff had gone to, especially in light of the fact that we were more than willing to hand over the £11 pounds for the items in question but we felt absolutely belittled and on the spot in front of a busy store full of people. After waiting for more than 10 minutes for a manager to materialise the lady then left and two members of security staff entered the room. I explained what had happened and although the two security guards were a lot more approachable and listened to what we explained they still issued us with a ban from all Asfa stores!!! She did explain that we could appeal by writing to the manager of the store but this seems incredibly extreme, especially since I told them I was more than happy for them to search all our bags as well as my person as we had nothing to hide. I have never shoplifted in my life and have no supporting incidents or convictions, nor have I ever had any run ins at any retail outlet and to be treated like a common criminal seems so unreasonable given that our Instore purchases totalled over £75 taking into account our spends in the cafe also. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this and had any success with fighting their corner?? Any advice would be most appreciated please.

Firstly ... I'd be making a formal complaint to the manager! I know how distracting a young child can be (my youngest is just over 2yrs old now, and we often have to open packets half way round the store to keep her quiet ). If they are unwilling to overturn the ban, then (IMO) they don't deserve your custom!!

Secondly ... did you give them your contact details?? If so, you should look out for a letter from RLP (LOOK ON THE FORUM FOR INFO ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THESE PARAS***S). Rest assured, you will get lots of help/advice here xx

They made myself and my partner sign forms agreeing to the band, they said it was a formality??! Who are RLP?? They told us that other than the ban then things wouldn't get taken further but advised we appeal the ban via the manager.
Absolute last thing we needed today :/ xx

I appreciate that it was an oversight but you need to remember that they hear every type of story , probably on a daily basis and to an extent their hands are tied. Although I can not abide this type of blind adherence to crazy bureaucracy it is a fact of life.

I appreciate that they hear this and all sorts but from a common sense point of view, I went to a checkout where my items were scanned by a member of staff, I've been shopping in the same store since it opened over 5 years ago and have never had any run in or issues with them prior to this, I have no record and the items were not blatantly concealed in any way, either inside or under anything. All I have asked for is some discretion and it seems so extreme. I'm really xo Cerberus that it now means I cannot shop in any Asda store ever again which seems unfair because the ban is enforced at this particular managers discretion so how can they speak for every store in the UK?? I'm sorry if it seems long wi fed but nothing like this has ever happened before and the fact that my little boy was with me just makes it all feel 10 times worse

It will be company policy to ban you from all stores.
Im with Kati on this one, if they won't lift the ban do you really want to help them make more profit?

My thoughts exactly!! How on earth can they vet and maintain a nationwide ban?! I can appreciate this type of action if I was a seasoned offender or there had been an issue like this previous but there isn't, never ever taken so much as a penny chew and even pulled up a member of staff on checkouts once when something didn't successfully scan but he put it in my bag without realising, also taken cash back left behind to the customer service till before but it all counts for nothing when a genuine mistake is made. If the manager isn't willing to apply discretion in this instance I'm happy to go elsewhere but I want the ban revoked in principle as it still equates to an unfair black mark against my name.

I don't think it was anything to do with blankets, it was just a few childrens' items! (Could've been a blankie, I suppose, but it would have to have been a cheap...... :eek2::bolt::behindsofa:

If it were me, I would SAR the store for CCTV footage, which should show this to be a genuine mistake.

Armed with that, I would take them to task!!

Help overruling unfair Asda Ban!!

I was in asda yesterday. I have only one hand that is free due to me having use a walking stick and I have boipolar as well .
i got acused of shoplifting they treated me like I was lying about my disability. they was parroting me by just repeating everything I said.
I had coke bottle in my pocket(which I got from someplace else) at the time I looking at some meds and picked it up then went to get drink with the same had what looked like shop lifting but actually was miss understanding. I then put products back and I didn't hear women say so thenot I suddenly needed the loo then my boyfriend cought up with me told me they thought I was shop lifting but by then I'd wet myself as a have weak bladder. they took me into room took photo I was stood while waiting as I still peeing myself and then sat down unconfetably. they then made me stand up and took photo and that made me sign paper saying I understood what I did and banned for 3 years. also I was very confused yesterday as mini episodes brought on by stress which they didn't seem to.care. I am out my episodes now and my boyfriend filled me what happened and only remember bits.

I am deeply sorry and next time will be more careful next time and I will make sure that always get basket or shopping trolley so that products are always separate from myself.

how can get myself unbanned I don't care how they treated me like tug who goes around pretending to disabled they didn't say but they implied it as you can see from what I said.

they said banned for 3 years and i cant go to this asda or any other from 3 miles radius
