hi everyone,am a new member to LB,and had come across the address whilst lurking on MSE [lurked on it for years when bored, never joined because of the ridiculous level of sock puppeting and time wasting from one attention seeking individual].
am hoping have got this in the right place and apologise if not, will try to explain as clearly as possible, its a bit lengthy as theres a lot to it,sorry.
-am severely autistic and have LD [intelectual disability],live in a specialist care home and am protected under the mental capacity act.
last year in september, had been taken to the hospital due to suffering from severe constipation; unfortunately this has been a part of life since a baby and have often been hospitalised as a result.
a word of note-am on co codomol for severe headaches caused by the daily issues of autism; head banging and sensory/information overload, unfortunately not many doctors can get it past their rigid inexperienced thinking that being autistic often comes with severe headaches as well.
have only been on co codomol for the past four years but have suffered from these headaches for entire life, didnt have the verbal and language capacity to explain the causes to anyone.
was already on a slow gradual part withdrawal programme that had been a legaly binding mental capacity act 'best interest decision' by the learning disability team of social services [including the pyschologist and pyschiatrist] and the GP of mine.
a specialist who had experience in crohns disease was the only one who went through entire history as well as having all the classic symptoms of it now and he thought there was a high chance was suffering from crohns disease and recommended that was put forward for the camera test.
was given picolax; the strongest laxitive known to man to help clear bowel out.
HOWEVER, a consultant; who had never met before strolled in arrogantly and said its not crohns so am not going to be given the camera test,he said it was the co codomol tablets am on that was causing the stomach problems,he also said the only reason that use them is due to addiction, and without any gradual step down in the painkillers-he COMPLETELY removed them all in one go,leading to acute withdrawal issues;physical and mental-that woud actualy happen to any person who has used them for a long while and a sharp stop happens!
had been on the co codomol for four years but had had exactly the same severe stomach problems since a baby, which this consultant never listened to,he just saw the word addiction, because was distressed over the idea of them removing the only thing that stops the severe pain of mine, was in agony every day with this before going on the tablets.
with that, was discharged from the hospital and was left suffering from almighty physical symptoms; constant puking of anything solid or liquid that goes in mouth and if anything made its way through it was completely undigested.
was suffering from halucinations and was suicidal,at night time support staff of the residential home phoned NHS direct and a local doctor who was sympathic to the situation said although she coudnt override what the consultant did and represcribe the co codomol because she doesnt know the conditions and circumstances of mine, she coud prescribe a few days worth of an anti emetic which had anti pyschotic properties; prochlorperazine buccal form.
staff rushed out to the twenty four hour chemist to get it-it stopped a suicide!
unfortunately as it was running out,was really suffering from the withdrawal effects and was readmitted to hospital, put on IV drips etc.
was suffering greatly from the daily pain am put through-had split head open over and over from head banging, added ontop of the withdrawal crap already, and when had requested for painkillers they said am only allowed paracetemol; useless crap, took it but it was useless,it never even worked when was a child.
when was starting to refuse the paracetemol-was told by a awful nurse am making her life difficult, was suicidal at that point already anyway so had thought that was the green light for killing self.
another consultant came in and finaly we had a bit of sense.
he said his fellow consultant shoud NEVER have taken away the painkiller without at least gradual withdrawal and he shoudnt have done it anyway as am under a legaly binding mental capacity act supported withdrawal program already.
however,he said he woud leave it up to the GP of mine as to whether shoud be given back the painkillers as am known best by the GP.
was discharged from the hospital again, though it was only a day later when was suffering from severe pain, halucinations and suicidal intention when had destroyed part of the downstairs bit of our residential home, and had put head through a double glazed window and then tried to slit wrists with glass though it had been specialy treated so it coudnt be used like this.
was pounced on by over ten police, hand cuffed and fully leg cuffed, and brought to hospital in an ambulance where was kept fully restrained to a bed for twenty hours, four police on top of self for the entire experience, was found a placement in a learning disability acute hospital and put on a section.
the police were supportive and were going wild at the fact was kept in A&E and restraints for so long.
was finaly allowed back on the pain killers but on a more limited doseage and every day the doctor in there woud lecture and treat like crap saying am addicted and was not experiencing any pain.
in hospital was badly suffering from severe back pain and was still thrown to the floor and pinned down on top of every day for challenging behaviors, this just made the back problem far worse.
the doctor said the severe back pain and arm/handcuff pain of mine from the police restraint and the hospital restraining was not real pain ,it was caused by the painkillers,so was silenced into a daily agony of pain by him,he reduced the co codomol down to a very mild dose and only up to six a day allowed.
was kept sectioned for four months in total, allowed out in november on section seventeen for leave, but due to severe anxiety was brought back kicking and screaming in an ambulance by the police after having been acutely restrained by them again and pinned down by several teams.
was released from hospital on january the twenty second into a new care home, and have luckily not been back to that hell hole or seen the police.
am suffering from PTSD as a result of the restraining and suffering deeply from having the addiction label.
yesterday,had gone to the doctors to get help with two issues;
severe pain from a very obvious dental infection and the severe back pain am left with since hospitalization.
he was prepared to raise the co codomol strength but a new support staff of mine who never understood why was on the pain killers told the gp am addicted! he prescribed two a day of naproxen instead; a stronger form of ibuprofren which helps just not enough of them to last as long, however had had it explained to him about the severe back problems since the police/hospital restraining and he just looked and ignored it as if was creeping for meds, was then sent out the door.
was absolutely distrought and felt suicidal because am in so much pain every day and no one gives a damn as they think am not in REAL pain.
am finaly coming to the conclusion that something legal needs to be done as the addiction label isnt true, plus that arrogant consultant who wrongly removed the painkillers in one go started a whole chain of events that led to devestation, the loss of a awesome residential home placement, severe mental illness, physical damage etc.
am asking, what exactly can be done about this?
is it possible to get the addiction label reversed and will it be possible to get legal action taken against the action of the first consultant? am really suffering over his actions still and need some sense of justice and closure to.
thanks in advance everyone and am sorry for the long post.
am hoping have got this in the right place and apologise if not, will try to explain as clearly as possible, its a bit lengthy as theres a lot to it,sorry.
