Hi,
City of York council have sent me a letter saying that on Thursday 1st November 2012 a Liability Order was issued against me. This is the first I have heard of the Bill they claim I owe or any Liability Order.
I have since found out that the Bill was for council tax for 2008-2009 on a property I owned but was managed by a letting agency who were responsible for all bills including the council tax. They also had an incorrect address for me so I never received the bill or any paper work about a Magistrates Court appearance, and it is only now that they are looking at recovering the money did they bother to find a correct address for me.
The letting agency has since closed so I am trying to track down my copy of the original contract. But I'm not sure how much good that will do, York Council seem very unhelpful in this matter and they already have a liability order saying I'm responsible.
I know there are time limits on appealing magistrate court decisions (21 days for some reasons and 3 months for others) is there anything I can do considering that I have only just found out about it? I phoned the magistrate court to find out details of the case but they don't keep individual records so I have asked the council to send me a copy.
Anyone any ideas?
